Playing Outdoors

It’s become a common theme for adults to grumble about kids not getting outside. And in many cases, it’s true. But rather than complaining, I thought I’d bring your attention to some good examples of school students, and teachers, who make time for getting outside, even in the mud and rain.

Near my own clinical office, there is a Montessori preschool based on the Swedish “Nature School” (Naturskola) concept. (Sometimes called “Forest Schools.”)  In this article about the school, the director, Cindi Rapoza, reminds us of the Scandinavian saying that there is “no bad weather, only bad clothing.”

Any day is a good day to get outside!
